A friend running for this incredible charity brought it to my attention this week and I have not thought of much else since.
Love146 works toward the abolition of child sex slavery and exploitation - not only do they infiltrate the sex slave rings to rescue girls sometimes as young as 8 or 9 but they have homes to provide the physical and mental after-care these girls so desperately need after living through such traumatic and horrifying ordeals.
People are under the misconception that sex slavery is only a problem in third world countries, but it is in actual fact a problem much closer to home, with children trafficked throughout Europe on a daily basis. Either way, wherever in the world it may be, not enough is being done to keep women and children safe.
India has featured heavily in the headlines of late, as well as Egypt of course. These countries in particular are a hub of adversity. Women are only just gaining the right to education in some parts, with many men not letting go of the idea that women should only feature in the home. This collision of age old mentality and the evolving world propelling women forward and allowing them to fulfil their potential is more dangerous and violent than ever.
